The seafarers sail from island to island across the sea. The black pirate sets off behind them, in chase of their boats and their treasure load. Only the player who skilfully directs their boat with the use of the bellows will escape the black pirate and collect the most coins.

Jenny Walkley (Monday, 27 November 2006) Rating: In Akaba, published in 2004, players used rubber bellows to push their flying carpets from shop to shop in the crowded streets of Baghdad the magnificent. Akaba was not only a gizmo, it was a great game, and it sold well. Der Schwarze Pirat (The Black Pirate) is its worthy follower. The same rubber bellow is now used to push merchant ships sailing from island to island to gather gold, and sometimes to propel the black pirate ship pursuing and boarding the rich galleons.
The gizmo is the same as in Akaba, but the game feels a bit different. Akaba is a game of speed, in which each player has a limited time to move his carpet; The Black Pirate is more tactical, and players can take their time to press the bellow three or four times, depending on the die.
They probably couldn’t advertise it on the box front, but the wonderful 3d board of Black Pirate board has obviously been designed with a very clear idea in mind – it can also be used to play Pirates of the Spanish Main. This makes two different market niches for the same game. If you have young children and like to play Pirates of the Spanish Main with your friends, you have two good reasons to buy this excellent game.
